For reporting that is an embarrassment to the profession
of journalism, and for being beholden to corporate paymasters rather than
the citizens of America.
Michael, Michael, Michael, you could have been a mensch; you could have
been a member of the civilized community; you could have made something honorable
of yourself in the world.
But instead, you are sewer stench, swamp gas, a bloviater of vile swill.
We last honored you as the BuzzFlash
Media Putz on April 10,
but it didn't take you long to return for a repeat rendezvous with infamy.
Ross Sauer of Sheboygan, Wisconsin, nominated you for your recent attempt
to attract sensational attention at the expense of abiding by basic standards
of decency. Last week, you caused pain and outrage to thousands upon thousands
of American families by claiming that autism is a fake.
No, autism is not fake; it is a draining challenge that so many in our national
community face with dignity and determination. You are the fake, the Goebbels
freak sideshow who wakes up every day with a new idea to get media attention
at the expense of others.
As one of our favored sites, Liberal
Talk Radio, noted:
I don't typically pay much heed to the likes of Michael Savage (a.k.a.
Michael Weiner), the vicious radio nut job out of San Francisco who stirred
up a hornets' nest not by attacking the usual targets, like liberals, gays,
etc, but rather by lashing out at autistic children. Personally, I am all
for the idea of corralling all extreme right-wing lunatics into insignificant
AM echo chambers that few people listen to and that fade out under bridges.
Out of sight, out of mind. Therefore, I could typically care less about
these goons' latest pathetic attempts to get people to pay attention.
I often prefer
not to take the bait.
Nonetheless, I found it quite interesting that after all of Savage's
ridiculous rants, it took the trashing of mentally challenged children
for the shit
to really hit the fan….
Savage claimed that autism is a "fraud, a racket." He then
claimed that the parents of minority children falsified cases of asthma
to collect
more welfare money and get extra help in school.
He continued, "Now, the illness du jour is autism. You know what
autism is? I'll tell you what autism is. In 99 percent of the cases,
it's a brat
who hasn't been told to cut the act out. That's what autism is."
We can all easily deride Savage for debasing our airwaves and engaging
in such malicious, hurtful, self-serving words of hate, but it is difficult
to understand why any corporation would pay for advertising on his program.
They are to be condemned as enablers.
But Michael Savage is the man who trolls through fetid gutters to feed
the worst instincts of human nature -- and get paid handsomely for doing
it. This is a very sick dynamic in our society, a cultural pathology.
For his continued role in the spread of this cancer upon America, we once
again name Michael Savage the BuzzFlash Media Putz of the Week.
Michael Savage has previously won the Media PUTZ of the week on April
10, 2008.
