For reporting that is an embarrassment to the profession
of journalism, and for being beholden to corporate paymasters rather than
the citizens of America.
Brit Hume has a contrasting style to Bill O'Reilly: Bill shouts and Hume
mumbles.
Of course, they both spout the same FOX News propaganda masquerading as fact.
It's just that one is a barroom brawler with a tie and the other is a preppy-type
whose claim to fame is that he used to play tennis with George Herbert Walker
Bush when he was president.
Of course, they are both in the FOX News stable of Roger Ailes GOP horse
shills; they just appeal to different parts of the rabid FOX American Flag
lapel pin audience.
Hume gets the three-martini executives and former Young Republican audience
market share. They must mumble a lot too.
Occasionally, you can make sense of what Hume is saying in that George Will
snooty sort of way, like when he claimed that FDR supported the privatization
of social security. This is an assertion that like much said on FOX News
seems to have materialized from a right-wing Ouija board. It was roundly
denounced as fantasy, even by Roosevelt's descendants.
If O'Reilly is the working class Reagan Democratic who conned his way into
being a millionaire shill for the GOP via Inside Edition, Hume is the St.
Albans educated heir to the William Buckley school of Republican entitlement.
Hume actually has a history as a political journalist, including a long stint
at ABC, but decided to cash in and get the big bucks peddling the Roger Ailes
funneled GOP message points of the day at FOX. But even before FOX, his ABC
political reporting leaned toward the GOP, particularly the Bush wing of
the party.
We don't understand Hume's viability, except that he appeals to the Wall
Street Journal types, apparently when they can actually understand his blather.
According to his official
biography at FOX, Hume has big responsibilities
for accuracy:
With more than 35 years of journalism experience to draw from,
Brit Hume is FOX News' Washington, D.C. managing editor.
Hume serves as anchor of "Special Report with Brit Hume," the
highest rated political program on cable television, which airs weekdays
on FOX News
Channel (FNC) from 6-7 p.m. ET. He also serves as a regular panelist on
FOX's weekly public affairs program, "FOX News Sunday." In addition
to covering major political stories, elections and contributing news analysis
to FOX News Channel, Hume is responsible for overseeing news content for
FOX News' Washington, D.C. bureau.
In short, he's chief D.C. propagandist for Rupert Murdoch and the Republicans.
That's quite a bit of responsibility: never letting the facts get in the
way of the GOP message points of the day.
And that is why Brit Hume merits being honored as the BuzzFlash Media Putz
of the Week.
